IFSKGIA Sea Classification

Class 1 Seas
unchallenging and protected waters with little exposure to strong winds, minimal currents and numerous safe landing areas in easy access to land based emergency assistance.

Class 2 Seas
Waters with short open crossings, moderate winds and currents and with numerous easy to moderate landings or slight surf beaches and within timely access to land based emergency assistance.

Class 3 Seas
Exposed seas with long open water crossings, moderate to strong winds, moderate to strong/turbulent currents, sea swells with difficult landings and surf beaches and within 6 hours of  access to land based emergency assistance.

Class 4 Seas
Uninhabited and inaccessible coastlines with long open sea crossings, strong winds, strong and turbulent currents, large sea swells,  with few but difficult landings, exposed surf beaches and within days of access to land based emergency assistance.
