Norges Havkajakk Guide og Instruktør Forbund ble stiftet i 2002 og ble medlem av det internasjonale havkajakk guide og instruktør forbund (IFSKGIA) i 2014. Siden IFSKGIA bare godkjenner en nasjonal organisasjon i hvert land, er det i dag NHKGIF som representere det internasjonale forbund i Norge, og som kan kvalifisere havkajakk guider etter IFSKGIA internasjonale standard.
